Glen N. Dickemore
Husband, Father, Grandfather
PLEASANT VIEW – Glen Norman Dickemore, 76, our beloved father returned home Thursday August 20, 2009 after a long, valiant battle with cancer.
He was born in Plain City, Utah on April 20, 1933. He was the fourth of six children to Adam Dickemore and Emma Amelia Mower. While growing up in Pleasant View, he assisted in running the family farm, acquiring many skills such as bailing hay, tending cattle, and milking cows. Following his graduation from Weber High School in 1951, Dad took jobs doing custom hay baling. His talent here is prevalent to this day as he had purchased property where he grew and harvested substantial crops of grains and hay for sale to other farmers and alike. His crops were often labeled as “Top Quality” because of the care he took in his work and often would have buyers from as far as Oregon and Texas. He also raised Black Angus beef cattle and dedicated much of his time into the care of his cattle as he did his crops. It was not uncommon to drive up to his house and see a sick calf he was taking care of. Many would comment on the beef that they bought from him, as it was the best they ever tasted. He bought the family mink farm from his father and ran successfully until he “pelted out” in 1990.
Dad was employed at Hill AFB as a civil servant for 35 years. During his career, he served as an Instrument Repair Mechanic on land mass cameras, spearheaded and wrote many Air Force software programs, and later acted as a supervisor. His wealth of knowledge and brilliance gained respect from his peers and subordinates alike. He worked as a farmer and cattle rancher also for all of his life. Our father had a passion for making his children’s lives better and worked hard and long every day so that they could have a better life than his, the wish of every parent for their children.
On October 15, 1954, he married Myrla June Kilburn. He was married for 50 years to the woman he loved until her passing in 2004. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple on July 18, 2009.
Surviving are his children, Michael (Maya) Dickemore, of Pleasant View; and Wendy Dickemore of Anchorage, Alaska; and his two precious granddaughters, whom he loved so very much, Sara and Amanda.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, a sister and several in-laws.
Our father was considered a “gentle giant” yet he was very direct. Everyone loved and respected him. After you met him you were not a stranger for very long. He had an awesome sense of humor that kept you laughing sometimes to the point where you would say, “Oh Dad!”
We love you Dad! You WILL be missed. As any farmer would say, “Greener pastures lay ahead.” Be at peace and enjoy your well deserved eternal rest.
We would like to give a special thank you to all at Hearts for Health, Hearts for Hospice and Comfort Keepers. You helped in places so that we could dedicate our time and love to our father.
We would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Ross Kelson and Dr. Carl Gray. Your skilled and compassionate hands allowed us to have time with our father. We can’t thank you enough.
Also, but not last, we would like to thank Krystal Bise, Gary Orton, and Lynn and Jenette Maycock. During our times of need, you were only a phone call away. And thanks to everyone else who was around during our times of need by stopping by and phone calls of encouragement.
…but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength: they will soar on wings like eagles: they will run and not grow weary: they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
