Glen Garland Foster

Glen G. Foster 1924 ~ 2013 Glen Garland Foster passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Ogden, Utah. He was well loved and loved life. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by family and friends playing board and card games. Glen was born to Frank Olaf and Alma Grace Jones Foster on November 25, 1924 in Haybro, Colorado, a small mining town that no longer exists. He grew up in Klammath Falls, Oregon where he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. In 1943 he volunteered for the Army and served in the 63rd Infantry Division, fighting in France and Germany. He was wounded while fighting in Germany and earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. On June 12, 1946 Glen married Catherine Elizabeth Bell in the Salt Lake Temple and they were married sixty years before she passed away on July 18, 2006. They were the parents of two sons, Kent R. Foster and Craig L. Foster. Glen earned a BA at University of Utah and an MA at University of Oregon. He spent his career teaching high school English, speech, and theater in Idaho, Oregon and California, the bulk of which was in Visalia, California where the family resided for thirty years. Glen loved the theater and appeared in a number of productions but his greatest talent was directing. He directed numerous plays and over twenty-five musicals. Glen was an active member of the LDS Church, having converted while in his teens. He shared his joy of the gospel with his sister and parents, as well as with friends, even late in his life. Throughout his life he served in many positions in the church including in a bishopric and as a missionary with his wife, Catherine. They served 1989-1990 in the Alabama Birmingham Mission. Glen and Catherine also served for years in the Los Angeles Temple and later the Ogden Temple and loved both the sacred work and the people with whom they served. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bernice Foster Schoell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine. He is survived by his sons, Kent Foster of Roy; and Craig (Suzanne) Foster of Layton, as well as his three grandchildren who loved him dearly, Robert, Shannon, and Senia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Summerhaze Ward, 380 So. Fairfield Road, Layton. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
