Glen V. Holley
OGDEN – Church and civic leader Glen Victor Holley, 80, died peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2007. The son of George and Myrla Wilkinson Holley, he was born on May 16, 1927 in Ogden. Except for nine years in which he lived in Latin America, he has been a life-long resident of Ogden. He married his “childhood sweetheart” Lucille Thompson on March 21, 1951 in the Logan LDS Temple. She was always his sweetheart and best friend. The father of four children he graduated from Weber College and worked in Air Force management for 34 years.
Glen lived a full and active life which centered on his family, his church, his neighbors and his community. His love for his family was unconditional and he was happiest when he was with his children and grandchildren. They had many wonderful times together. He recognized that his greatest responsibility in life was to his wife and his children.
He was a steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was blessed in being able to serve in many church capacities which included: The first bishop of the 67th Ward, President of the Ogden Stake, President of the Torreon, Mexico Mission, Regional Representative of the Twelve Apostles in Northern Davis County, President of the Lima, Peru Temple, Sealer in the Ogden Temple and Patriarch of the Ogden, Utah Stake. He was one of the first missionaries to Costa Rica and baptized the first members in that country. He and his wife also served a mission to the Nauvoo Visitors’ Center.
Glen had a great love for the City of Ogden and spent most of his life serving in the community. He served eight years on the Ogden City School Board, six years on the Ogden City Council and served on numerous city and county committees and boards. He was a dedicated member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He was the chairman of the Ogden Sesquicentennial Committee in 2001, and was considered the Father of the Ogden River Parkway.
He loved writing and wrote several novels, short stories, religious articles and ancestral histories. He enjoyed good music and sports activities.
He is survived by his devoted wife and two sons and two daughters, Richard (Mary Ann) Holley, Carol Ann (Peter) Lindquist, Linda Williams and David Holley as well as 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and three sisters, LaRita Chugg, Joyce Welch, and Nancy Jolley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Hollows Ward Chapel located at 1550 Rushton Avenue in Ogden.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
