Glen Johnson

April 25, 1935 — July 26, 2019

Glen Richard Johnson was born in Illinois on April 25 1935.  He moved with his mother and sister to California when he was young.   As a young man he raised prize winning sheep and entered many 4H sponsored competitions which won him a scholarship to Veterinary school.  It was there in California he met and married his first wife Joyce Robison and shortly after was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as an active member of the Church and loved serving his Lord.  He served many church and local missions and filled many church callings.

He worked construction for many years while living in Utah and was able to travel across the United States working on many landmarks, highways, a few Temples, the Church Office building  and the Matterhorn at Disneyland.  These projects were some of the things that made him most proud and he loved to tell stories of his days working on the construction projects.

When Glen was in his mid-50s he began to lose his eyesight. This was a very trying time for him, but it didn’t stop him. He changed careers and began working for his son’s janitorial business. At this time he met Krissy and they later married and had a daughter. As time ticked by and his vision got worse he kept moving forward. He attended the School for the Blind and learned to read braille and use all sorts of tools to help him navigate in his new sightless world. He was also given the opportunity to get a Guide Dog named Taz who was a faithful companion for many years. And again, through all of these trials Glen never gave up, he never quit working. He adapted and pushed forward. These trials helped him strength his faith in our Father in Heaven and his devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In 2003 he met LaRae and they were married in December of the following year. Together they traveled and enjoyed visiting with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For several years Glen worked at Wendy’s in Layton wiping down trays and tables and visiting with the High School kids that would stop by every day on their way home from school, working always made him happy and gave him a sense of purpose. When his age finally caught up to him in his late 70’s and he was not able to continue working there any longer, he began to volunteer at the Senior Center and serving the good elderly folks there.

He leaves behind his wife of 15 years Alice LaRae Johnson, His children Jerry (Tammy) Johnson, Bonny Wiles, Michael Johnson, David Johnson,  Gary (Megan) Johnson, Keith Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Jamie Johnson (Sean Fox) and Danel Davis along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, step-children; George Eric (deceased) (Naomi) Myers, Christina (Peter) Andrada, Mark (Janet) Myers, Robert (Pamela) Myers, Keith (deceased) (Beverlee) Myers, Cathy (Jeff) Newton, Caren (Michael) Wilcox, Timothy (Lorinda) Myers, and Charles “Jerry” (Patricia) Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Johnson and Veda Ruth Lewis, his sister Darleen Smith, his sons Glen Richard Johnson Jr. and Robert Ray Johnson.
