April 10, 1946 ~ September 11, 2014

NORTH OGDEN – Glenda Ann Shupe Spencer, age 68, passed away peacefully at her home on September 11, 2014.  She was born in Ogden, Utah on April 10, 1946 to Glen Howard and Neta Herrick Shupe.  She was the second of four children.  She grew up in Liberty, Utah and worked on her father’s fish farm helping guests catch fish.

She graduated from Weber High School in Ogden in 1964.  After high school she attended Weber State College for two years studying to be a court judge.  She worked as a legal secretary prior to her marriage.

She met Doug in high school, but never dated him there.  In November of 1967, they met, after Doug came home from his mission, at a church dance.  Later Glenda was in a serious car wreck and Doug courted her for 6 months at her home as she was unable to walk.  They were married on September 4, 1968 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Glenda enjoyed being a stay at home mom to her two daughters and son.  She enjoyed writing and has written a book of poems.  She wrote and directed many ward road shows.  Her hobbies were her family, her church, and piano.  She served in many callings in the LDS Church.  Her first calling was at age 13 as the pianist for the Young Men and Women Organizations.  She was Primary President, 1st Counselor in the Relief Society, and Young Women’s President twice.  However her favorite callings were teaching Relief Society, Blazer leader, Cub Scout leader, and Primary Chorister.  She was called on often to play the piano because she could sit down on a moment’s notice and play most anything.  She was the pianist for the Weber State College Women’s Choir.  She taught many youth piano lessons.

She was a peacemaker to all she met and enjoyed making new friends.

Glenda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Norman Douglas Spencer; daughter, Wendy (Brandon) Saxton; son, Garrett Douglas (Mandy) Spencer; daughter, Stacie (Cam) Prisk; 12 grandchildren, sister, Elaine (Blain) Green, ReNee (Jay) Holley, and a brother, Thorpe (Laurie) Shupe.

We wish to thank all those who have helped with her care, especially those at Envision Home Care and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014  at 11 a.m. at the Harrisville 10th Ward, 1560 North 200 West.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
