Glenn Embry

November 1, 1945 — August 19, 2018

On Sunday, August 19, 2018 Glenn Robert Embry departed on a journey to join his parents, brothers, and wife Carol Elaine (Martin) Embry all that preceded him in death.  Glenn was born on November 1, 1945 on his parent’s farm just outside Adrian, Missouri.  His parents were Ervin L. and Iva P. (Yates) Embry.  Glenn had two older brothers, Lyndell L. Embry and James (Jim) E. Embry.  He attended the first three years of school in one room schoolhouse, Olive School, a part of the Adrian R-III School System.  In his Forth year, the rural schools were consolidated and Glenn began school in the town of Adrian.  Glenn did not graduate from high school; instead he received a GED after joining the US Army at the age of 17.

While serving in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany, Glenn met and married Annemarie Makiolczyk on August 15, 1965, and became the father of her son Mathias Makiolczyk, born June 17, 1964.  Glenn and Annemarie had another son, Glenn Ervin (Joey) Embry on March 21, 1966.  Glenn and Annemarie were divorced in April, 1969 with Annemarie, Mathias, and Joey returning to Germany to live. Annemarie Died in 1974.

In June, 1969, Glenn left the US Army and returned to Adrian, Missouri.  While there, he met and later married Carol on August 16th, 1970.  Carol was 17 years old when they married.  In February, 1971, Glenn rejoined the military and became an Air Traffic Control Radar Maintenance Technician for the US Air Force.  For the next 17 years, they traveled to different bases around the United States and Germany.  Their only child, W. Michael Embry was born in San Bernardino, California while they were stationed at Norton AFB, CA.  Glenn and Carol both loved their time in the Air Force.

After Glenn retired from the Air Force, he continued his work with the Air Force as a civil servant, returning to the same unit he retired from while on active duty at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.  He spent two years at Keesler as a civil servant when he was then transferred to Hill AFB, Utah.  Glenn became a main-stay at Hill AFB, he led the efforts of 88 personnel providing training for aircraft maintenance personnel all over the world; he completed an additional 18 years there retiring once again in 2008.

Within one month of retirement, Glenn and Carol began to live their dream of spending a year living and traveling throughout Europe (Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, England, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and Finland.  They visited and saw things and places they were unable to see or do the first six years they lived in Germany.  They both loved the history of Europe and enjoyed this wonderful time of their life.

Shortly after returning from their European tour, Glenn lost his wonderful wife Carol to cancer.  He became a full time grandfather sometimes traveling to Germany to be with his son, grandchildren and great-granddaughter as well as moving close to Mike’s family and being papaw to Leland and Arlen.

After Carol’s death, Glenn met, and later married, Sharon Lynn Owen.  Sharon, a career flight attendant for Delta Airlines, was born in West Virginia and followed her parents as they moved from place to place.  Most often she lived in Atlanta, GA, and the Heber Valley, UT.  Sharon gave Glenn the reason for living and made him and his family extremely happy.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, brother(s), and wife.  He is survived by sons Mathias and wife Daniella; Joey, Mike; grandchildren Sabrina, Vanessa, Jennifer, Jason, Leland, and Arlen; and great-granddaughter Jamie.  He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

Glenn R. Embry was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and above all, Glenn was a patriot that loved his family and his country.
