Glenn Butcher Manning
FRUIT HEIGHTS a" Glenn Butcher Manning died July 20, 2012. Glenn was born April 11, 1924 in Fruit Heights (then part of Kaysville) the fourth child of Charles Edward Manning and Nellie Butcher Manning.
Glenn was born in the red brick home across the street from the house he and Beth lived in for 53 years. Glenn married Beth Powell on November 8, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Glenn is well known for the peaches and cherries grown on Manning Orchard in Fruit Heights, Utah. Glenn had been the third generation to operate the farm, his son Scott will continue to operate the farm. Glenn loved gardening, flowers and good music.
During World War II Glenn served 2 A½ years in the Army Air Corps. His service took him to New Mexico, California and finally Tinian Island in the Pacific. Following the war he worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield where he met his wife, Beth Powell. They built a home in Fruit Heights on the family farm where they lived for 53 years. Glenn worked two jobs most of his life: the orchard that he loved and in the civil service at Hill Air Force base.
He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served with five bishops as a ward financial clerk and as high priest group secretary under three high priest group presidents. He and Beth were called in 1984 to serve as name extractors and completed over one hundred thousand entries.
Glenn is survived by five children: Kyle with wife Ruth Ann, Scott with wife Debbie, Charles, Susan Buck, and Don with wife Shelly, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Fruit Heights LDS Stake Center, 170 North Mountain Road, Fruit Heights, Utah. Friends may visit family Wednesday, July 25, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in Kaysville City Cemetery.
