Glenn Watkins Pett

Glenn Watkins Pett of El Dorado Hills, California, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2017.  Glenn was born on January 8, 1928 along with his twin brother, Lynn Watkins Pett, in Murray, Salt Lake County, Utah to Lorenzo Fern Pett and Florence Watkins Pett, who lived in Midvale, Utah at the time. Glenn’s other siblings were Fern Watkins Pett, Marion Pett, and Ray Watkins Pett.

Glenn grew up and spent most of his early life in Copperton, Utah, near where his father worked at the Utah Copper Mine. At an early age, Glenn was taught the importance of hard work.  Glenn often worked at the copper mine during his high school years. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Due to WWII, Glenn cancelled his senior year in order to begin the Fall Semester at the University of Utah.

It was during Glenn’s chemistry classes that he met the love of his life, Betty Dean Naden. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 17 March 1950 after an extended engagement filled with numerous “study dates” as Glenn completed medical school. Glenn and Betty were blessed with five children. Glenn believed that daily scripture reading, family home evening, and family prayer were essential to the success and happiness of his marriage and family.

Glenn was a licensed physician, and practiced as a radiologist. Prior to his retirement, Glenn worked at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Sacramento, California and Roseville, California.  Early in his career, Glenn served as a flight surgeon for the Air Force at Elmendorf Air Base, Anchorage, Alaska.

Though his profession required much of his time, Glenn was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including scoutmaster, Elders Quorum president, counselor in the Bishopric, and high councilor.  Glenn loved home teaching and faithfully completed his visits each month.  Through his service as a home teacher, Glenn and Betty developed lifetime friendships.   Glenn worked tirelessly on his genealogy and had numerous spiritual experiences associated with the work. He compiled a selection of significant spiritual events experienced by his ancestors which compilation he gave to his family as a special Christmas present.

Glenn is survived by his children, Glenda Pett Farr, Jeffrey Lynn Pett, Craig Russell Pett, and Melissa Pett Brady.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine Pett Roberts.  At the time of Glenn’s death, Glenn and Betty had eighteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren (including one stillbirth).

Glenn will be deeply missed by his posterity.  His impact on our lives and the lives of many others will be felt for generations.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City Cemetery.  Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
