Gloria Watts Bishop

Gloria Bishop, daughter of Wilford and Thrella Watts, quietly passed away on January 11, 2018 having lived a full life of 95 years. Born in Los Angeles, California on September 22, 1922, but raised in Kanosh, Utah on a farm/ranch.

Being the oldest of 7 children she learned early hard work and responsibility with a can-do attitude. She had a love for educating young people and worked in school administrations in Utah and Texas. Ever compassionate and giving, she often quietly lifted young and old who needed the tender hand of a caring friend. Having lived through the Great Depression, she was frugal and conservation-minded but generous with her means, her time, and her talents. Dedicated to the lifelong pursuit of learning, she returned to BYU at the age of 60 to complete her degree in education after raising her children and beginning her professional life.

Gloria loved beautiful things and shared her eye for style by opening a drapery business in Ogden, Utah in the late 1970s. She had a green thumb and a love of all living things. She was often found enjoying the quiet surroundings of her home nurturing her abundant garden. She embraced life with an infectious smile and boundless energy that brought joy to those around her. She could take on any challenger and was a formidable opponent on the golf links, the bowling lanes, and the tennis court.

Of her manifold life’s achievements, her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother are the loftiest. With her late husband, Lewis Bishop, she raised 5 children with unwavering love, patience and tenderness. She is grandmother to 17 and great-grandmother to 51 and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Judy Anderson, Geri (Craig) Memmott, Michael (Diana) Bishop and Kathy (Lee) Burt. She is also survived by brothers Raymond Watts and Doug Watts, her sisters Marilyn Snow and ReVon Udy. She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis, her son Calvin Bishop, her brother Ivan Watts, and her sister Wanda Bushnell.
