Gloria Lord

1934-2023

Gloria Joan Saxey Lord, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, disciple of Christ, and friend passed away June 29, 2023 at the Welcome Home assisted living center in Bountiful, Utah.  She lived a full and faithful life and was an example of love, kindness, and compassion to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was born February 24, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph and Ruth Higham Saxey.  She was the second of four children.  She graduated from East High School, the class of 1952 and attended the University of Utah beginning in that fall.  She married Walter David Lord, April 3, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.  Immediately following her marriage, she and her husband lived in Germany for two years while he was in the Army.  Upon returning to the United States, they lived in Salt Lake City and ultimately purchased their family home in North Salt Lake in 1962.     

Gloria led an active life that included a love of camping and skiing with family, sewing, cooking, reading, and serving those around her.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many roles throughout her life.  She and her husband served in the England Manchester Mission 1994 - 1996, the Inner City Salt Lake Mission 1999 - 2001, the Martins Cove Visitors Center in 2002, and a variety of Church and Family History and Temple service assignments.  She truly was an example of service, patience, unconditional love and kindness to family, friends, and strangers.

She is survived by her children; Greg (Jan), Kenny (Kim), Carrie (Scott) Isakson, Rick (Michelle), Mitch (Pam); 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters Connie (Tim deceased) Schieving and Diane (Richard) Carling, and her brother Mike (Shirley).   Preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Orchard Stake Center, 261 E. Center St. North Salt Lake, Utah, where friends may visit family Thursday July 13th from 6:00- 8:00 pm and Friday 9:30-10:30 am prior to services.  Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Bountiful, Utah.

Gloria’s family extends a special thanks to the staff at Welcome Home whose kindness and compassion made her final weeks as pleasant as possible.
