March 4, 2020 Gloria Young Monk (age 78) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends after fighting a long term disease (Huntingtons chorea movement disorder). Gloria was born Feb 27, 1943 in Northumberland England to Evelyn and Leslie Young. Gloria grew up in Hexham, Northumberland England, south of the river Tyne. At the age of 21, Gloria and her friend took a boat to America for a new adventure.
A few years after living in America, Gloria met her future husband, Arnold Burns Monk, through her local LDS ward. After a few months of dating they were engaged and later married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Aug 19, 1968. They were married for 43 years. After they were married Arnold was called to serve for the military in the California area. They bought a home in Orange County and desired to start a family. Gloria and Arnold tried for many years to get pregnant but were sadly unsuccessful. They began fostering Children for the State of California. As an answer to their prayers, a phone call one day, changed their lives forever. They received foster placement of Allie, a newborn baby girl. After caring for and loving Allie, they were able to adopt her at the age of 4. After the adoption, Gloria and her family moved to Utah when Arnold was transferred for a job with the Air Force.
Gloria was an active member of the Fairfield 2nd ward. She enjoyed serving others. Her favorite things were cooking and baking. Gloria loved to quilt and knit blankets and sweaters, which she often used as gifts to help others around her. Gloria held many callings in the LDS church throughout her life. She served as Relief society president, Young Women’s president, Primary teacher and Cub Scout leader. People were drawn to Gloria for her warm smile and love of others. Gloria had a great sense of humor and lived a life full of laughter. Gloria lived a life of service, bringing joy to those who crossed her path.
Gloria loved to travel and see this beautiful world with her husband, daughter and friends. Gloria lived each day to its fullest and enjoyed life’s adventures.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Monk, her mom Evelyn Norton and dad, Leslie Young, along with Aunts and Uncles from England.
Gloria is survived by her daughter Allie Talbot, son-in-law Tristen Talbot, two wonderful grandchildren, Kellyn and Ireland Talbot. She has also left behind beloved grandchildren Katerina and Aleksandra Winkler, step brother ( John Norton) and many cousins and friends.
