Gloria Hiatt Stickney
On November 23, 2016, heaven was blessed with a beautiful, kind, and loving angel! Our family lost a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, dance partner, hiking companion, and mentor. She was the heart and soul of our family, a woman who was many things to so many people.
Gloria Ann Hiatt was born on June 25th, 1939 to Floyd Ellis and Anna LaPreal Nilsson Hiatt in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest of 7 daughters and had two younger brothers. She attended East High School.
At the tender age of 14, this quiet city girl met a charming country boy and soldier from Michigan. After roller skating and talking for hours on end, she knew she’d met her soul mate, the love of her life, Maurice Lee Stickney. They were married on June 28, 1957, three days after her 18th birthday. She raised 4 children and had a big part in caring for 6 grandchildren, giving them many adventures and memories!
Gloria enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking with her family, working in her gardens, dancing, singing and storytelling. She was an artist, bird-rescuer, scout leader, reading tutor, and so many other things. She earned a black belt in karate and enjoyed practicing Tai Chi and Falun Dafa. Every nook and corner of her home holds some precious memento of a life well lived, a child or grandchild treasured, a memory or a craft.
We will miss her smile, hearing that laugh, and looking into those beautiful twinkling hazel eyes. Although our hearts hurt, we are at peace knowing that she is where she has longed to be, back in our Daddy's arms, smiling into his eyes, dancing and singing together again!
She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and her beloved husband. Survived by her four children; Glory King, Karen (Steven) Capener, Wendy Cheney, Bill Stickney (Darla Stott), Six grandchildren; Shane Stickney, Baillie King, Zachary (Natalie) Stickney , Joshua Stickney, Sam Capener, and Blaine Capener; her brother Floyd (Linda) Hiatt and her two sisters Rosella Kilpack and Iris Whitaker and her precious dog Gracie.
