LAYTON a" Our beloved father, grandfather and friend passed away from natural causes Saturday, March 12, 2011.
He was born November 24, 1922 in Burley, Idaho to John Orrin Walker and Etta Vera Baum. He worked a short time in Long Beach, California where he met the love of his life, Clara Beth Hansen and they were married July 25, 1942. Later that year their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Gordon was a devoted and life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he faithfully served in many callings. His most memorable times were spent in service as Bishop in Burley, Idaho and in the Stake Presidency and again as Bishop in Hemet, California.
Gordon served as District President of the Burley Idaho Farm Bureau. There he promoted Idaho agricultural products and acted as an emissary for Idaho farmers. He was employed in various professions but what he most loved and will be remembered for was being a farmer. He loved working and expressing himself through his hands, building, maintaining homes or apartment complexes.
He loved his family, spending time with his children, grandchildren and pursuing his favorite hobbies of fishing, hunting, camping and baking cookies. He played one year of college football for Idaho State and enjoyed watching all college football and basketball games, especially BYU.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Clara Beth Walker, his two sisters Maxine Wheaton and Vivian Darrington and his six children: Phillip Gordon Walker (Anna), Rosemary Martinez, Charlotte Lynn Faulkner, Paula Annette Child (Steve), Loren Duane Walker (Diane), and Elizabeth Lavine (Steve), 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents John Orrin Walker and Etta Vera Baum, three brothers, Owen, Murray and Wyman, and two sisters, Winona Goodfellow and Fay Berry.
Gordon''s family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful staff at Manor Care and gives profound gratitude to the staff at Love Hospice. Your heartfelt dedication and selfless hours were a source of solace through this time of transition.
