Grace Dobson DeWitt
Grace Dobson DeWitt left this earthly life on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 just one day before her 93rd birthday. She was born July 31, 1915 in Kanab, Utah to William Thomas and Rose Hamblin Dobson. One of seven children, she was raised in southern Utah and Salt Lake City, graduating from West High School.
Mother married Paul Comstock DeWitt on December 18, 1938. They bought their home in Salt Lake City in 1950, where they lived when their only son William (Bill) was born. They were later divorced. Mother lived in this house for 57 years, until her health would no longer allow her to live alone. She moved to Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, where she was living at the time of her death.
She retired from the Motor Vehicle Division of the Utah Tax Commission, where she worked for many years.
She was a member of the LDS Church, where she loved working in the library and visiting teaching. Many people were blessed by her giving spirit.
Surviving are her son Bill (Diana, deceased), sister, Fran Berkline, four grandchildren Alice (Clay) Anderson, Matthew (Julianne) DeWitt, Elizabeth (Joe) Baker, Mark DeWitt, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Hamblin and Vance Dobson, sisters Ella Gamblin, Doris Boardman, twin-sister Rose Davis, and her daughter-in-law, Diana DeWitt.
Graveside services will be held Monday, August 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
