Grace Downing Dopp

April 13, 1923 ~ June 6, 2017

Grace Downing Dopp passed away June 6, 2017 in Tremonton, Utah at the age of 94.

Grace was born April 13, 1923 in Birmingham, England to Francis Joseph and Elsie Evans Downing.  During World War II, although there were nightly bombings and a plane crash into the building where she was working, there was still time for dances and romances.  At one of the dances she met the love of her life, Harold J. Dopp (A Yank, no less) while he was serving in the military.  They courted for a short time before he was shipped out to fight in the invasion of Normandy.  When he was able to return to England, he proposed and they were married on June 14, 1945.  After a year of separation, Grace was able to obtain a visa and set sail for America.  She arrived at Ellis Island and began a new way of life.  Grace and Harold lived in Ogden, Utah for 62 wonderful years where they raised their family.

Grace was converted and baptized in 1952 to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She and Harold were sealed in the Logan Temple on September 30, 1965.  She faithfully, and with dedication, served in the Relief Society presidency at both the ward and stake levels for 32 years.  She had a love for learning and was always curious about things.  She was well known for making the best pies and tarts.  She loved to knit and sew and always wanted to learn new things, which included playing the piano.  She and eight other war brides formed a club and friendship that endured throughout their lives.

Grace was the seventh of eight children and she was the last surviving child.

She is survived by her children, Brent A. (Janet Webber) Dopp, South Ogden, UT; Dianne L. Morse, Tremonton, UT; and Barry J. (Jennifer Purvine) Dopp, Challis, Id; she leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Brad, Matthew, Angie, Colette, Jessica, and Calvin; and 13 precious great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold, and son-in-law, Wayne L. Morse.

Viewing and funeral services will be at Lindquist Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah on Saturday, June 10, 2017.  Viewing is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. followed by interment at the Ogden City Cemetery.
