Grace Mecham Evans

Heavenly Father gently called home our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend on August 11, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 5, 1935 to Leland and Reta Geary Mecham in Milton, Utah.   She was the 9 th of ten children.

She attended schools in Morgan County.  On September 10, 1950, she married the love of her life and best friend Noal Thomas Evans in Evanston, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saints Temple.  She fulfilled many church callings.

She gave life to nine wonderful children, Susan (Steven) Morlock, Noaleen “Bo” (Hugh) Holman, KayLynn (Gary) Grant, Cindy (Brent) Bitton, Todd Noal Evans, Connie (Bryan) Malone, Cheri (Kelly) Goss, Heidi (Judd) Kendall and Scott Mecham (Trisha) Evans.  She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren on the way.  Her family was her most prized possession and her greatest joy.  She taught us that family comes first and set an amazing example to love and respect one another.  She was the world’s greatest mother and grandmother.

She lived her life for her family and supported their many activities and family functions.  She enjoyed bowling at Davis Lanes, horseback riding, fishing, ice skating, hunting and camping with her family in the beautiful Uintah Mountains.  She even taught herself to ski and enjoyed various winter sports.

Grace worked at Smith’s Food King and 26 years at Candy Campus Daycare.  She loved each and every child that came through their door as if they were her own.  Everyone loved and cherished “Grandma Gracie.”

She loved to hold babies and gather children around her.  She was soft spoken, had gentle hands, a tender touch and was a wonderful listener.  You could always stop by and plan on leaving with a full tummy.

She took in every neighborhood kid and every friend we brought home and made them feel at home.

Grace had a warm soul that calmed you and made everyone feel as if they all were her very favorite.  Grace left footprints on many people’s hearts.  Success is not judged by wealth or possessions, rather by accumulation of friends.  She judged no one and loved everyone.

Survived by her children and spouses, grandchildren, her beloved siblings, Melba, Verl, and Geary, special sister-in-laws, Deanna and Saundra, brother-in-laws, Louie and Ray with whom they enjoyed monthly lunch dates.

Preceded in death by her sweetheart, parents, siblings, LaVoile, Ellis, Lola, Ray, Darrell, June and great-grandson, Triston.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Uintah Cemetery.

“What a privilege to walk through the valley with our angel as she steps through the veil.”

Candice – granddaughter.
