Grace Minson Steed, age 91, danced out of this world on October 16, 2009 at her home in Salt Lake City. She was born October 9, 1918, in Rexburg, Idaho, the eighth child of Rachel Eckersell and Arthur Minson. She graduated from Boise High School and attended Utah Sate University where she affiliated with Alpha Chi Omega sorority. At Utah State she met Harold Cook Steed whom she married on July 19, 1943, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. She spent the last 2 A½ years of WWII working as a secretary in New York City and Philadelphia, where Harold was stationed in the army. They then returned to his hometown of Clearfield, Utah, where Harold began his banking career and Grace devoted herself to her career of homemaker and mother. Grace was active in the community and a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints where she served in many positions. Her favorite calling was Stake Activities Chairman because, according to her children, "Mother always loved planning a party!" This included birthday parties, graduation parties, holiday celebrations, and the incredible Clearfield Stake Bi-Centennial Ball. Her passions were her husband and four children. She devoted her time and talents to teaching her children values and an enthusiasm for life. Grace loved a joke. She loved to dance. She loved to hear her grandchildren perform. She loved to be in the middle of everything. She bore the loss of sight and hearing with remarkable good humor. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994 and grandsons Peter Moench (2005) and Travis Cole (2008). She is survived by her children, Pam (Hal) Cole, Debbie (Louis) Moench, John (Suzanne) Steed, Sally (Harold) Welling, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 14 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Ensign 4th Ward Chapel, 589 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City, where friends and family may call from 12:40-1:40 pm prior to the services.
