Grant A. Agren 1914 ~ 2012

Grant Andrew Agren passed away on June 30, 2012, at the age of 97, from the effects of old age. He is survived by his sister, June Brown, two daughters, LouAnn (Mike) Wirick and Kaylen (Jed) Robinson, and a son, Curtis (Darlene Savage) Agren, 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Grant was born on July 20, 1914, in Harrisville, Utah. He grew up on the family farm with six sisters and a brother. As he grew up, he loved tinkering in his father''s tool shop. Throughout his life he followed those interests and became skilled in carpentry, auto mechanics, electrical work, welding, plumbing, and remodeling. He could fix just about anything, even converting a car into a truck and constructing his own boat trailer. He had a great green thumb and raised high quality fruits and vegetables throughout his life. He and his wife also worked hard to have a beautiful yard with all kinds of flowers and shrubs.

After high school, Grant attended Weber Academy and Smithsonian Business School. He purchased his father and mother''s farm and farmed for approximately ten years. In 1950 he left farming and was hired by the Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked there for the next 31 years.

In 1939 Grant married Louisa "G" Smith in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 41 years until she passed away of cancer. He lovingly cared for her during her illness. He and Louisa took great joy in providing their family with many vacations in the Western United States. They purchased a boat and for many years enjoyed boating outings. For a number of years they enjoyed square dancing with Grant even calling a few square dances. In their retirement years, Louisa and Grant took a number of trips over-seas.

For approximately four years, Grant resided with his son and his wife who tenderly cared for him until last year when he required more care and entered an assisted living center. He will always be remembered as a dependable provider, as a creative handyman, and as a modeler of a great work ethic for his posterity.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
