Grant Gibbs
LAYTON a" Grant Gibbs, 79, passed away peacefully at Ogden Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
He was born on October 19, 1931 in Portage, Utah, the son of John R. and Rachael Kloepfer Gibbs.
He graduated from Bear River High School. A gifted runner, Grant ran the 440 and won the Regional Championship in 1949. He graduated from Weber State College with an Associate''s degree and from BYU with a Bachelor''s degree in Accounting.
Grant served honorably in the USAF during the Korea War. Grant married Lupe Anaya. They had four children and were later divorced. He married Gloria Homewood on March 12, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Grant retired from Sperry Univac (Unisys) after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Grant was a special, kind, loving, devoted father, who demonstrated truly uncommon personal sacrifice in support of his family throughout his life. He was an avid BYU fan.
Surviving are his wife Gloria, Layton; six children: Elena (John) Padmos, Port Orchard, WA; Michelle Gibbs-Parrish, Salt Lake City; Kirk (Airika) Gibbs, Sugarhouse; Daniel Gibbs, North Salt Lake; Kent (Lynette) Homewood, Sandy; Craig (Sharon) Homewood, Sandy; 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Dorine Arrington, Clinton; Arlene Moss, Lehi; two brothers, John Robert (Joan) Gibbs Jr., Syracuse; and Calvin (Diane) Gibbs, Bountiful.
Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
