Grant K. Hansen of Kaysville, Utah, passed away July 1, 2011 at Barton Creek Assisted Living in Bountiful.

Born August 6, 1921 in SLC, Ut; to Rachel Fern Gatherum and Enoch Albert Hansen. Survived by five children: Grant K. (Gayle) Hansen of Moab, Ut; Shauna (Richard) Dalley of Rupert, Id; Scott Hansen of West Valley, Ut; Tammy (Steve) Ashton of Canton, GA; and Steven (Angie) Hansen of Vernal, Ut. He has 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

As a child he was raised by a widowed mother during the depression. He had an older brother, John Hansen, and an older sister, Mary Hansing, who always took good care of him. Both preceded him in death. As a young teenager, he helped his mother financially by selling newspapers every evening on the streets of SLC. He made 15 cents most evenings.

As a young man, he enlisted in the navy and served during World War II. Once while visiting Hawaii, he walked through the Punch Bowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and was very touched as he realized most of the men that died at Pearl Harbor and were buried there, were born the same year and within a few months of his birth.

While serving in the navy, he met and married Dorothy Deloris Warrick in Bangor, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1945. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. At the time of his death, they had just celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. Dad and Mom could astound everyone by dancing a "mean jitterbug" until way into their seventies. After the war, he began working at Hill Air Force base as a civilian. In 1967, he moved his family to Taiwan, where he contracted flights for the US government with China Air Lines into Vietnam. This move helped his family experience a different culture and come to appreciate the blessings of living in the U.S.

He taught his children the value of hard work and not spending more than one earned. He loved his family and did things to create strong family ties. He was always concerned about his children and his grandchildren''s welfare and helped them whenever he could.

He loved taking care of his garden and growing different fruits and vegetables. He loved to share the fruits of his garden with family and friends and those in need. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various capacities. He loved sharing his feelings about the gospel and how the Lord had blessed him. We love you Dad!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center (201 South 600 East) with Bishop Kib Jacobson officiating. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
