Gumey Benavidez

In loving memory of Gumey Benavidez. Gumey was born on October 5, 1969 in Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1980 with his mother, Paula, and siblings. He passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 due to complications from encephalitis after a brief fight against overwhelming odds.

Gumey was a loving and devoted husband who married the love of his life, Claudette, on October 16, 1993. He was her knight in shining armor and loved playing that role.

His family was a profoundly important part of his life and he found great joy in being with them. Gumey was crazy about each one of his nieces and nephews and was typically their favorite uncle. He was the most loyal friend anyone could have. People were drawn to his kind and gentle heart and his smile.

Gumey was a hard worker and took great pride in being able to assist others in his job with Utah Department of Workforce Services.

He absolutely loved being outside in his yard and recently fell in love with fishing.

He was baptized as one of Jehovah''s Witnesses on October 31, 1988 and was a faithful servant until his death. Gumey believed firmly that Jehovah intends to do away with the enemy death (Isaiah 25:8) and that he would benefit from the hope that God''s Word holds out for mankind of being resurrected to a paradise Earth (Psalm 37:29).

He is survived by his wife, Claudette; mother, Paula Benavidez (Moses Ferrer); brothers, John (Reonna), and Thomas (Marche) Benavidez; sisters, Brenda (Rigo) Varela and Nancy (Rudy) Ceballos; and his in-laws whom he was close to, Chuck and Marge Love.

Gumey was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Benavidez Sr.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah''s Witnesses located at 1950 West 4400 South in Roy.

In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Haiti Relief Fund c/o Roy Congregation, 1950 West 4400 South Roy, UT 84067.
