KAYSVILLE – Kenneth Guy Maughan Murray passed away peacefully on April 14, 2008, at age 82, after a valiant two-year struggle with numerous health problems.
He was joyfully welcomed home by his father, Kenneth Bailey Murray, his mother, Celia Maughan Murray, his brother, Berkeley Maughan Murray and grandson, Aaron Murray.
He was born April 10, 1926, in Wellsville, Utah. He learned the value of hard work on his father’s farm in Wellsville. He attended Floradell Elementary School, Wellsville Junior High and graduated from South Cache High School. He attended college at Utah State Agricultural College.
He was an excellent athlete, excelling in basketball and softball. He participated on many bowling leagues and in the Senior Olympics, where he won numerous medals, incuding the gold medal in the team event. He was also on the Church All-State Softball Team.
He was a World War II Veteran serving his country with the Navy in the South Pacific.
He married Norma Luthy in Elko, Nevada, on August 26, 1947. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on June 15, 1948. They have celebrated 60 years together, living in Kaysville, Utah, for the past 53 years. They were blessed with three children: Marshall Guy (Pauline) Murray of Ogden, Utah; Sharleen (Chris) Hansen of Kaysville, Utah; and Jeffery L. Murray of Layton, Utah.
He was retired from Hill Air Force Base. He owned and operated several drive-inns from 1961 to 1978, including the Frosted Mug in Kaysville, Utah, which had the coldest root beer in town, the Tik Tok Drive Inn in Layton, Utah, the Dog N Suds Drive Inn in Layton, Utah, and Guy’s Café in Ogden, Utah.
He is survived by seven grandchildren: Tyson, Kim, Krystal, Brandilyn, Michelle, Jeremy and Tiffani. He is survived by three great-grandchildren: Kacey Ann, Kanyon Guy and Paisley Jean. He is also survived by one brother, Craig (Marie) Murray of Syracuse, Utah; and four sisters: Carma (Gail) Gibbs of Stoddard, Utah; Emma Jean (Warren) Allen of Washington Terrace, Utah; Suzanne Olsen (John, deceased) of Paradise, Utah; and Rochelle (Ron) Hamblin of Syracuse, Utah.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many positions.
We will miss Guy’s great sense of humor, practical jokes and his presence at our numerous family get-togethers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 201 S. 600 E. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
