Gwen Alene Allred Black, age 83, recently of Syracuse, UT, passed away of causes incident to age on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Sante Assisted Living Center in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born on November 14, 1926 to John Lutellus Allred and Tina Christina Frandsen Allred in Talmage, Utah, the eleventh of eleven children. Her siblings were Loren, Zola, Cecil, Elldred, Fawn, Glen, Glenda, Lyle, Floyd and Verlin. She met her future husband, Clair H Black, at his father''s flour mill in Duchesne, Utah. They later married on January 18, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Gwen was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker and took pride in providing a comfortable home for her family. Gwen loved learning; she always took the opportunity to continue her education and expand her talents. She loved the arts, especially music which gave her comfort in her later years.

Her husband, Clair, was an officer in the USAF. She and her family lived and traveled extensively in the United States and in the Pacific. When her husband retired from the USAF, they moved back to Utah to live in Morgan County and then in Layton. Later they moved to Talmage to restore her childhood home. After ten happy years, they returned to Davis County to spend their remaining years.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Clair H Black on November 15, 2009 and daughter, Michele Black Ferreyra (Steven) on June 1, 2008. She is survived by her children Sherie Black of Syracuse, UT, Steven Clair Black (Marie) of Snoqualmie, WA, Melody Black Badali (Paul) of Layton, UT and David A Black (Ann) of Merced, CA, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A family service was held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road with interment at Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
