Halver B. Garner
NORTH OGDEN – Halver Berrett Garner, 92, died peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at his home in North Ogden.
He was born January 26, 1917 in North Ogden, a son of Arthur Milton and Mary Elizabeth Berrett Garner.
On February 11, 1942, Halver married Maurine Johns in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Maurine preceded him in death November 22, 2008.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including Stake Missionary and temple worker.
Halver served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre.
He retired from Cream O’ Weber Dairy following many years of service as a route salesman.
Halver devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. He always lent a helping hand to a friend or neighbor in times of need. Halver enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a member of the North Ogden Kiwanis Club and served a term as President.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Glen Halver Garner, North Ogden; Vern Johns (Becky) Garner, Farr West; Sharon (Steven) Bailey, Puyallup, WA; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Lavon Hull and Janice Cragun.
Preceding Halver in death were his wife Maurine, his parents, brother Ralph, sisters Fern and Mable, and grandson Brandon Bailey.
The family expresses special thanks to the Hospice For Utah staff for their loving care of both Maurine and Halver during their final days.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 23rd Ward Chapel, 787 East 1700 North.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
The family suggests donations be made to Hospice For Utah in Maurine and Halver’s names.
