Harl Reid

Harl DeLoy Reid, 79, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at his home after a long bout with congestive heart failure.

DeLoy was born November 16, 1937 in Logan, Utah to Harl and Zelda Jenks Reid.

He graduated from Pocatello High School in Pocatello, Idaho. After which, he served an LDS mission in Northern Mexico, where he found his love for the Spanish language. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Weber State College, and went on to complete a Masters Degree in Education/Spanish from the University of Utah.

DeLoy married Beth Slade on July 1, 1965. They had six sons, two daughters, and (currently) 20 grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He spent over 32 years teaching the subjects of Spanish and English, among others in the Secondary Education system, mainly at Sunset Jr. High in Sunset, Utah. He loved to encourage his students to challenge themselves.

He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and a quiet disciple of Christ, serving in many callings over the years.

DeLoy is preceded in death by his parents, Harl Reid and Zelda Henrietta (Jenks) Reid.

DeLoy is survived by his wife Beth Slade Reid, his children Michael (Sue) Reid, Annette (Brad) Nielson, Alan Reid, Karen (Paul) Atwood, David (Haley) Reid, Ryan Reid, Steven (Stefani) Reid, and Kenneth (April) Reid, along with 20 grandchildren, his siblings Sharlene Hess, Gary (Jeanene) Reid, and Becky (David) Sneddon.

DeLoy was the epitome of a hard worker. He raised eight children on a school teacher’s salary, but those eight children never wanted for anything. They spent summers fishing, camping and experiencing the great outdoors.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, chess, and playing golf with the guys. He was a big tease, and loved to make people laugh, especially his grandkids. He will be missed, but we are grateful for the knowledge that he is at peace, and enjoying a wonderful reunion with those who have gone on before him.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 4th Ward, 875 East 200 North, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
