Harold Gregory Garber
KAYSVILLE - Harold Gregory ("Jan") Garber, our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully July 25, 2010 surrounded by family. His passing was gentle and peaceful, for which we gratefully acknowledge the Lord''s tender mercies.
Jan was born in 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri to Benjamin Garber and Eva Berman Garber. He was a career Air Force officer, serving in World War Two, and later in the USAF Air Weather Service. He was proud of his military service and had great respect for his fellow veterans.
He married Eldra Jean Draper in 1950 and they were blessed with four children. He was a dedicated provider. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 60 years, sons Gregg (Cheryl) and Kirk, five grandchildren, Bradley (Kathryn), Cameron (Shannon), Dallin, Quinn, and Tiana, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters Karen Jo and Laurie Jean, his sister Frieda (Serkes) and brother Max.
Jan loved flying and logged thousands of flying hours, as a navigator and later in weather forecasting and research. During the war, he navigated cargo planes between India and China, through the Himalayan Mountains, often in dense fog. After the war, he happily flew through hurricanes off Bermuda in B29 "hurricane hunters," and out of Alaska on many Artic missions. He loved to tell stories of his flying experiences.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Price City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
