Harold Marsell

Hal Marsell passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born March 4, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl G. Marsell and Pauline A. Brown. He married Dorothy Sybil Pelton in Las Vegas on November 20, 1948. He was recognized as a Layton native and practiced optometry in his community for over 50 years.

Hal attended East High School, the University of Utah, and graduated from the University of Southern California School of Optometry.

Hal served in the Army during WWII and later served on the Advisory Board of the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the Utah Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and served on the National Board of Optometric Examiners. Hal enjoyed many civic responsibilities as he served as a Layton City Councilman, a member of the Layton Chamber of Commerce, the Layton Jaycees, and the Davis County Jeep Patrol. He was presented with numerous professional and civic awards throughout his lifetime. With all of his awards and the organizations he belonged to, he always felt that his greatest achievement and legacy was his family.

Hal is survived by his children: Wendy, Layton; Scott, Sandy City; and Brent, Syracuse. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, and one sister, Elaine Swan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the LDS Valley View Stake Center Peacefield Ward, 1589 E. Gentile, Layton. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist Memorial Park at Layton.
