Harold D. Powell

OGDEN a€" Never was a man more loved by so many who were honored to be part of his life. Harold Dwane Powell died peacefully Monday, May 9, 2011 surrounded by his family at his home in Ogden.

Harold was born March 12, 1934 in Richfield, Idaho, to Fredrick W. and Ella Sweat Powell. His father died when he was two years old. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Harper Buel, along with his sister CoRene Buel Keith.

Harold graduated from Dietrich High School and attended Idaho State College before enlisting with the U.S. Army on February 17, 1954. Following his discharge from the service on February 16, 1956, he returned to college, before ultimately deciding on Law Enforcement.

Harold retired from the Ogden Police Department following 23 and a half years of service. He then worked at Defense Depot Ogden retiring after eight years due to health problems.

He married Billie Muir Bennett on May 31, 1963 in Reno, Nevada. With his marriage to Billie, he became an instant father to Cliff (deceased) and Claudean Bennett. What a wonderful father he was and from there, a wonderful grandfather to Shaun and Kyle. Then the lights of his life turned on when he became great-grandpa to seven wonderful great-grandchildren.

Harold was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the Elks and the International Footprinters Association.

Surviving are his wife Billie, daughter Claudean Bennett, former daughter-in-law Ginger (Steve) Frongner, grandsons, Shaun (Jennifer) Frongner, Kyle (Kathy) Frongner, great-grandsons, Nyle, Alex, Gabe and Jaron and great-granddaughters, Mikaela, Abby and Cambria Frongner, all of Utah.

Also surviving Harold is his sister CoRene Keith, Baldwin, KS; and his brothers and sisters-in-law who loved him dearly along with nieces, nephews and so many special friends. We will all miss you.
