NORTH OGDEN- Harold Dean Schweppe, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 29, 2008, surrounded by his family.

Harold was born at home on January 22, 1932, to Harold O. and Marie Schweppe in Hamilton County, Iowa.

Harold married Corinne Buffington August 18, 1956 in Long Beach, CA; later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Corinne passed away on April 20, 1988. On November 16, 1990, he married Verna Holdeman. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict in the 31st Strategic Recon Squadron. His family and friends loved hearing his stories about his time in the Air Force and his love and passion for the B-36, for which he was maintenance crew chief.

He graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in agronomy and pursued advanced studies at Iowa State. He managed cooperatives in Iowa and Utah prior to his 30 plus year career with the USDA, retiring in 1994. He served as an appointed director for Western Ag Credit, 1996 to 2005.

Harold was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions of responsibilities. Harold and Verna served as missionaries for the LDS Church in Nauvoo, IL, 2005-2006.

Harold loved being outdoors, and especially enjoyed sharing this passion with his family and friends; camping and back-yard barbeques were common. He was once quoted for his definition of friendship, saying: "A friend is someone who is there when you need them and when you don''t." Harold was a friend to many. He was always ready for a road trip, and had a soft spot in his heart for the beaches of Kauai.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; children, Mathew (Susan) Schweppe, North Ogden, UT; Julene (Todd) Roane, Kaysville, UT; Mark (Kristal) Schweppe, Liberty, UT; two stepchildren, Holly (Terry) Cosgrove, Montrose, VA; Weston (Shauna) Winchester, Jacksonville, FL; five siblings, Ruhl (Quinna), Pahrump, NV; Jerry (Ginny),Vincent, IA; Darlene Milton, Spencer, IA; Janice Ringstad, Jewel, IA; Linda (Daryl) Marker, Woolstok, IA; and 15 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife Corinne, infant son, Michael, parents and sister, Betty Lou Johnson.

The family sends heartfelt thanks for the loving support and service from family, friends, neighbors and VistaCare.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 20th Ward Chapel, 575 East 3100 North, with Bishop Paul Kelly officiating.

Friends may call at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
