Harold "Harry" Roy Steers
Harold "Harry" Roy Steers, 99, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Harold was born on June 5, 1912 to William Edmond and Julia Hall Steers in Preston, Idaho.
Harry was raised and schooled in Preston, Idaho. He moved to San Francisco when he was nineteen to help care for his mother and work with his brothers painting homes. The brothers also sang barbershop together; Harry was a tenor.
During World War II, Harry served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations and was honorably discharged as a Painter, Second Class.
He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harry and Bette Bingham were married on April 13, 1961. They were later sealed in May of 2006 in the Ogden LDS Temple.
Harry was a fisherman through and through. He loved fishing the Bear River with his buddies. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons the sport. Harry had a love of good music and he could remember and sing the words to more songs than anyone could count.
He is survived by his wife, Bette; daughter Lisa Alane Steers (David) Gilbert, Ogden; stepson, Michael David (Linda) Doman, Hot Springs, South Dakota; stepdaughter, Patricia Carol Doman (Vern) Allen, Cocolalla, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Canyon Hollows LDS Ward, 1550 Rushton. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
The family would like to thank Dr. Reis and the staff of Alpine Hospice, particularly Tammy and Justin, for their loving and gentle care.
