Harold Elmer Taylor

Harold Elmer Taylor In passing from this life and returning to his Heavenly Father, Harold Elmer Taylor has bestowed a legacy of kindness, diligence, and devoted service for friends and family to both cherish and follow. His passing occurred April 1, 2013. Harold was born March 11, 1919 in Logan, Utah. He was the fifth child born to Vivian Alford and Anna Elizabeth Henstra Taylor. He took full advantage of his 94 years and lived a very full and active life. At a young age his family moved to Riverdale, UT where his father owned and operated Central Sheet Metal Works. Harold joined the Army on April 7, 1941, a few months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served 18 months in the South Pacific on the island of New Guinea and was honorably discharged on December 24, 1945. Harold met Shirley Wilkinson in March 1946 and they were married May 15, 1946. They were blessed with five children, Patricia (Jerald) Lamb, Kelly (Gretchen), Ted (Debra), Russ (Jeri), and Van (Beth) Taylor. They raised these children in Mountain Green, UT and from these blessings they received 16 Grandchildren, 41 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. He honored his priesthood and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Harold was known for his ability to work hard and help others wherever he was living, visiting or vacationing. He followed his father in the sheet metal trade where his abilities were well known. His example led to his four sons and six grandsons also working in that trade. Harold enjoyed 32 years of retirement in which he and Shirley traveled extensively through Alaska, Canada, the United States, and Mexico. He especially enjoyed travelling the back country roads. His enthusiasm for the outdoors is shared by his family. The family spent their vacations camping in Yellowstone, on Flaming Gorge and on Lake Powell. Harold loved to fish and he fished nearly every lake, pond and river that he came across. Other outdoor activities he shared with his family included hunting, fishing, camping, and riding ATV''s. Harold and Shirley built a winter home in San Felipe, Mexico where long walks on the beach were a favorite. Family was always a top priority in his life and he especially loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold is survived by his lovely bride, Shirley Wilkinson Taylor, five children and their spouses, one brother, Don (Margaret) Taylor and two sisters, Lois Heald and Florence Cox. He is preceded in death by his brothers Alford, John, Neil, David, Vic, and sisters, Ardell and Anne and great-grandson, Dax Larsen. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Inspiration Hospice, especially Matt, Laura, Sunny and Jeannie, and to Emeritus Assisted Living for their loving care of Harold during his last days. Please come join us as we celebrate Harold''s life, on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Poplar Stake Center, 1745 N. 2300 W., Farr West, UT.
