Harry S. Diarte
ROY – Harry Singh Diarte passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 with his sweetheart of 69 years at his side.
He was born July 12, 1920 to Charley Sher and Ygnacia Alvarado Singh, in Brigham City, Utah. He attended Box Elder county schools. After the death of his father, he was raised by his mother and stepfathers, Jesus Diarte and Genaro Flores.
Harry’s greatest joy was being with Amelia “Molly”, his wife of 69 years. They met on July 24, 1936 and were married October 23, 1939 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ogden. Their vows were renewed, 50 years later, and their love lasts forever. They are great role models to their children and grandchildren. Through tough times and happy times, they worked things through and built a wonderful family. Their devotion to each other has been a constant in their lives.
He was a gentle lion. He had a huge roar but the most tender heart, which he wore on his sleeve. Just a visit and an old memory would make his day. He loved his family and all of the grandchildren. They have made him proud and he always loved having them around him.
Harry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was employed by Union Pacific Motor Freight and retired after 25 years. He loved his big rigs and had many stories of the places he had traveled. He helped lay the rail in Weber Canyon for the railroad and helped build the highway to Sun Valley, Idaho. After his retirement, he volunteered for Weber County “The Ride” and later for the Catholic Community Center. He was selfless and loved to keep busy.
He was excellent at math and was a jack-of-all trades. He loved to build things! His passion in his younger years was to help others, especially relatives and friends when they needed a hand with some project.
Harry enjoyed most sports, especially baseball, which he played in Brigham City. He was an avid golfer and loved to bowl on leagues with family and friends. One of his best memories was fishing for salmon in Oregon. He loved the outdoors, camping was one of his favorite things as well as fishing for trout. He loved to dance and everyone loved being around him. He loved to have fun! He had a great wit and much wisdom. He had a cute mischievous little twinkle in his eye. He is loved dearly by everyone who was lucky to be in his life and will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife, Molly, of Roy; three sons and one daughter, Chuck (Anita) Diarte, Roy, UT; Dave (Mary) Diarte, Ogden, UT; Robert (Mary Hellen) Diarte, Torrance, CA; Natalie (Kit) Hunter, Riverdale; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
