Harry Paul Jones
“Jonsey”
September 1915 – September 2007
OGDEN – Our dear husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harry Paul Jones, known to many as “Jonsey”, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.
He was born September 17, 1915 in Shoshone, Idaho, to Harry F. and Grace Harmison Jones. He graduated from Shoshone High School and later met and married his beautiful wife, Olive M. Hume, from Gooding, Idaho, on May 22, 1937 in Jerome, Idaho. He then attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch at Pocatello, Idaho and Weber State University. They had two children, Paula (Mrs. Dale Whittle), Mark (Becky Mason) Jones, five granddaughters and four great-grandchildren who all have brought great joy to his life.
Jonsey retired after 30 years of service from Hill Air Force Base.
We will always remember the pride he had serving our country and the stories of serving with the 342nd Field Artillery Battalion in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He also was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as Chaplain of his chapter for 10 years.
In July of 1944, Dad committed his life to Jesus Christ in DeRitter, LA. He was a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church where he loved working on the Wednesday night “Kitchen Crew”. He also helped out at the Ogden Rescue Mission.
Dad had a great love and passion for working in his yard and his famous red raspberry patch. Jonsey devoted his time to help family, friends, and neighbors. We all will miss you greatly!
Surviving are his daughter Paula, son Mark, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nephews, nieces and cousins whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers, Charles of Shoshone, ID; Leon of Caldwell, ID; Robert of Couer d’ Alene, ID; Darrell of Lebanon, OR; one sister Viola of Shoshone, ID; and his two granddaughters Leslie and Ruthie (identical twins) of Draper, UT.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and love to Hospice Alliance who tenderly, lovingly supported our family and to the caregivers from Helping Hands and all the other dear friends who helped so much – “Thank You”.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Washington Heights Baptist Church, 1770 East 6200 South, with Pastor Roy Gruber officiating.
