Harry Thomas Voigt
1939-2014
Harry Thomas Voigt, 74, of Layton, passed away January 31, 2014 in Layton, UT of a heart attack and stroke.
Harry was born in Joliet, Illinois to Richard and Mildred Voigt on March 26, 1939. He was the youngest of three children. He grew up on Route 66 and graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1957. He attended Joliet Junior College and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960. He attended basic training in Lackland, TX and served at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX and Hill Air Force Base, UT.
In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Sarah White and they had three children: Heather, Vanessa and Sheldon. Later he married Bonnie Ashbaker Swenson.
After 4 years in the military, he worked for Clover Club Foods, Kaysville City and retired from Layton City as the Public Works Inspector. He enjoyed western movies, detailing his cars to participate in car shows, NASCAR, Chicago Bears football, Utah Jazz basketball and going to lunch with his children on Saturdays.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mildred; brother Gale Voigt; and brother-in-law Bill Egan. Harry is survived by his wife; sister: Diane Egan of Wilmington, IL; children: Heather (Hal) Saunders, Vanessa (Cody) Mori, and Sheldon Voigt; step children: Scott (Kim) Swenson, and Kip (Sherry) Swenson; grandchild: Mia; step grandchildren: Cami, Cory, McKell, Paige, and Jacob.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday, February 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the mortuary.
Interment will follow at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Our family would like to thank the medical staff at Thatcher Brook and Davis Hospital for their care and compassion for our father. We are appreciative of his friends who touched his life each day, which brought him great joy.
