Hasle ‘Red’ Caudill
FRUIT HEIGHTS – Hasle ‘Red’ Caudill, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2009.
He was born February 27, 1916 to Irvin and Lizzy Halcomb Caudill. One of 13 children from a small Kentucky town, Hasle ‘Red’ Caudill left his home, family and everything he knew during the depression. At age 17, he boarded a train and made his way to Marysvale, Utah for a job in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He helped construct many early southern Utah roads in and around the Henryville, Cannonville and Kanab areas.
With only an eighth grade education, he was truly a self-made man who could make, build or fix anything with creativity and perfection. He worked in the sheet metal trade for most of his life.
Red was filled with humility and was never one to complain about anything. He lived an exemplary life of kindness and love. He quietly and gently enriched the lives of all who knew him.
He married Rhoda Chynoweth, later divorced. He later married Blanche Shaver who preceded him in death.
Red is survived by his two sons, Dennis (Linda), Fruit Heights; and David, Centerville; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; brother Buck, Daisy, Kentucky, and sister Verna, Mooresville, Indiana.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Utah for their compassionate care. The family would also like to thank Chris and kids for their thoughtful love and support through the years.
