Haunani Brown
Our beautiful Nani passed from this life surrounded by loved ones September 21, 2019. Haunani (Nani) Brown was born August 5, 1988 to Puanani and Stephen Brown. She grew up in Bountiful, Utah with four siblings. Nani was a spunky child, determined to do things her way. She was strong and always knew what she wanted.
Nani believed everyone should have a voice and equal rights. She was a champion for the underserved and needy of the community. Nani was a peer tutor for students with disabilities at Woods Cross High School. Nani worked with the homeless population for four years at the Lantern House. She was an advocate for the LGBTQ community and women’s rights. Nani was especially close to her mom. She loved her deeply and in her own way. She was proud of her Hawaiian heritage.
Nani met Jake when she was just 19. She said she had found the love of her life and would not let him go. Nani won Jake over and he loved and cared for her during the good times and the difficult ones. He was and still is unconditionally devoted to her. Sadly, mental illness robbed Nani of her life in the end. We will all miss her greatly.
Nani was preceded in death by grandparents and is survived by Jake Johnson, her husband of seven years, parents, Puanani and Stephen Brown; siblings, Maile (Russell) McDevitt; Jonathan Brown; and Napua Brown (Alex Littlewood). She leaves behind Jake’s family, many nieces and nephews, friends, and her two doggies, Bocca and Tofu.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends Friday, September 27, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel Street Park (152 S. Chapel Street) in Layton Utah.
We will miss you, Nani, and hope you have found peace.
