Hayle Buchanan, 92, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2017, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home.

Hayle was born on April 3, 1925, in Teasdale, Utah, the tenth of twelve children born to George Franklin and Louisa Jane Allen Buchanan. His family moved to Roosevelt when he was 12 years old. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School.

He served in the United States Army as a radio operator in the 30th Division, on the front lines in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Following the war, he attended Brigham Young University. He served an LDS Mission to the Netherlands. He graduated with his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from BYU. He graduated with a Ph.D. from University of Utah.

He married Melva Lois Taylor on April 9, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children. They were married for 45 years before Melva passed away in 1998. Hayle was a widower for 19 long years. He always had time for each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, they were each a delight to him.

He was employed as a seminary teacher, a high school teacher, and college professor. He taught at the Church College of Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii; American River College in Sacramento, California; and Weber State College.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served in many callings, including Bishop, and the Stake Presidency. He loved Genealogy work, attending the temple, and spending time with family.

Hayle is survived by his children, David Hayle Buchanan, Janice Buchanan, Marianne (Max) Barker, and Bryce John (Kim) Buchanan. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva; his parents, and brothers, and sisters. He was the last surviving sibling of the 12 children. He was also preceded in death by his twin great-grandsons, Hyrum Gordon and William Max Barker.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden LDS 11th Ward Chapel, 2340 N. Fruitland Dr. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.

The family would like to express special thanks to nurses and staff at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice, for all the loving, kind care given to our father.
