Hazel “Beverly” Korchnak was born on April 12, 1928, she passed away on July 17, 2023.
Beverly was the mother of six children, Shauna Edwards, Faye Lynn Fisher (deceased), Brett Fisher, Michael Fisher, Sherie (Barry) Rodriguez, and James Barry.
Beverly married Donald Fisher when she was 18 and had four children in five years. Her husband died in an automobile accident when she was still pregnant with her fourth child. She was a single parent with four young children and was barely hanging on. During this stressful time she allowed two of her children, Shauna and Michael to be adopted by close family. She always thought she would get them back.
Beverly later married a career Marine, James Barry and had two children, Sherie and Jimmy. Beverly raised the four children through a turbulent relationship with her second husband. When she had had enough, she divorced and moved with her remaining children to New Jersey where she met the love of her life, Tom Korchnak. In 1996 Beverly and Tom moved back to Utah to help take care of her aging mother, leaving her adult children and young grandchildren back in New Jersey. She had many regrets. This was one of them.
As a single mom Beverly often worked two jobs to support her family. She took pride in being a professional waitress and was the best. She later worked for Waltrends, a French wallpaper company, where she functioned as a sales rep.
Beverly did volunteer work for St. Jude Red Hats and was a tour guide on Antelope Island.
Beverly loved to sing and had a lovely warm alto voice. During her last days and in terrible pain, she sang. She was vivacious and energetic and could keep a room full of people laughing with her stories and humor. She was charismatic, generous to a fault, her gifts were always thought out and perfect. She had very strong opinions about current events and loved to express them. She will be greatly missed by her family. We are comforted by the fact that she is finally at peace.
She is survived by five of her children, twelve grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and brother Peter O’Neil. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald O’Neil and sisters LaRae Thorne and Patsy Cutrel.
