Hazel DePierro
1914 – 2008
SOUTH OGDEN / LAYTON – Hazel Fern DePierro, 93 passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield of causes incident to age. She was born September 4, 1914, in Bradshaw, Nebraska to Robert Ray and Jessie Beishline. She married Amedio DePierro, Sr., on November 10, 1937 in Logan, Utah. She lived the majority of her life in South Ogden and Layton and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Hazel graduated from Ogden High School in 1932 and worked for the Ogden Union Railroad and Depot (OUR&D) and the Union Pacific Railroad after going to college for about a year and a half. She attended Weber College for a couple of years and transferred to Utah State University in Logan, receiving a BS degree in Mathematics with a minor in Music. She then went on to get her Masters Degree in Mathematics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She taught mathematics and retired from the Granite School District in 1978.
She fluently played, taught and enjoyed the French horn for many years. She and her husband were in the Ogden Rodeo Band, a member of the Union Pacific Railroad Band, the “Hungry Seven” German Band, involved with the Rocky Mountain Symphony, active in the Ogden Symphonic Orchestra, and played in the Utah Symphony; she transposed music for the “All Faces West” pageant and played in the “All Faces West” orchestra for a number of years and also participated in numerous other bands and orchestras in the Ogden area.
Being a country girl at heart, her great love for God’s creations was exemplified by her living on the farm in the country, caring for the goats and many other animals. She loved gardening and beautiful flowers and took great pride in her quarter-acre peony and iris patch. Finding great satisfaction in working and living off the land with her husband and raising their own food was a lifetime pursuit.
Surviving are her three children, Amedio [Sonny] (Geneel) DePierro, Jr. of Clearfield, Carole (Gary) Mathie of Tooele, and Jeannine Stowell of Layton; 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Beishline of Ogden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Helen Beishline and Ruth Warren, and one daughter, Jeanette Heslop.
The family expresses special thanks to Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield and Summit Hospice (Brenda Postel and Kasie Wall) for the special care they rendered.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Mortuary 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends and family may call Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., South Ogden.
