Hazel J. Edwards
OGDEN- Our beloved Grandmother, Hazel Josephine Engelke Edwards, 91, died Saturday, November 7, 2009 following an enduring battle with cancer.
She was born January 31, 1918, in Ogden, Utah to Charles and Sarah Engelke. She married Jack Edwards on November 19, 1941 in Evanston, Wyoming. Together they lovingly raised one son, David.
She was educated in the Ogden School System and was graduated from Ogden High School in 1936. She worked at Hill Air Force Base for a short time while her husband served in WWII.
Hazel was an avid gardener and loved to spend time with her family. She will be greatly missed by her family for many things, but her thoughtful nature and loving example will be missed the most.
She is survived by her six grandchildren: James D. Edwards (Cinda) Platte City, Mo.; Wade A. Edwards (Megumi) Tokyo, Japan; Carla Shields (Gregory) McKinney, TX; Glenn M. Edwards (Natalie) Huntington Sta. NY; Jason M. Edwards (Mindy), Tremonton, UT; Barbara Smith (Benjamin) West Jordan, UT. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack Edwards, son David Edwards, great-grandson Joseph Edwards, and siblings Earnest Engelke, Leona Miller, Nora Miller, Karl Engelke, and Ruth Edwards.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd.
Funeral services under the direction of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.
