Hazel H. Ford, proud Daughter of Utah Pioneers of Morgan, and an independent woman with a flair for design, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 in South Ogden.
She was born April 14, 1923 to Royal Oscar and Wealtha Porter Heiner on Old Highway, in Morgan, Utah. She was one of eight siblings: Grace (LaVerne) Bates and Ruby (Ezra) Potter (twins), Grant (Mary Stoddard) Heiner, Ralph (Naoma) Heiner, Lorne (Lorene) Heiner, Rita Francis Foley, Hazel, and Doyle (Betty) Heiner. All of her siblings preceded her in death, except for her brother Doyle and his sweet wife Betty.
Hazel attended Utah State University, in Logan, studying interior design. She interrupted her design studies to support the war effort at Second Street in Ogden working as a key punch operator. Her boss, Robert William Ford, a new manager trained by IBM, was attracted to the "cute blond" in his group of key-punch operators. Bob was assigned to drive the girls safely home each night and he arranged to drop Hazel off last each evening. Soon it was time for this boy from the east to meet her parents in Morgan.
After a honeymoon to Colorado Springs in 1952, Bob converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he and Hazel were sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple. Bob preceded her in death on February 23, 1988.
Hazel served as a church librarian and primary teacher, while Bob served in the Ogden 26th Ward Bishopric.
Hazel ran her own business, Hazel Ford Interiors, in South Salt Lake for 20 years.
Their children are: Leslie Ann Ford of Bountiful, mother of Chris (Julie Eldridge) Colt, Deborah (D.J. Williams) and Rob (Angie Weiland) Colt; Steven (Eleanor Thompson) Ford, father of Ashley and Brie, both doing film work in Los Angeles, CA; Michael Craig (Sheila Muldoon) father of Jeremy, Joe, Amanda, of Walnut Creek CA; Jeffrey Lynn (Abigail Simon) Ford of Brooklyn, N.Y. She has eight great-grandchildren.
