“Together Again”
Helen Burns Gudmundson, shy by 4 days of her 100 th birthday, sadly passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. She was the matriarch of the family and a huge influence in all our lives. She possessed a strong will to live and fought to the very end. We were all blessed to have her in our lives and to have been by her side in her recent journey.
She was born on May 10, 1915 in Logan, Utah the daughter of John and Ida Burns. She married her childhood sweetheart Arthur D Gudmundson on July 25, 1936. Shortly after being married they moved several times between Oakland CA, Kentucky, and Utah while Art finished his medical internship. Settling back in Ogden where he started his medical practice she worked as his medical secretary and bookkeeper, enjoying being by his side both at work and home. They enjoyed 46 years of wonderful married bliss, countless boating and fishing trips, hunting adventures, and traveling until he passed away in 1982.
She loved to fish! A few of her favorite places were Flaming Gorge, Jackson Lake and Canada, but her favorite of all was Hebgen Lake Montana. Her children were her pride and joy and her best friends. After Art’s passing she accompanied them for the next 33 years on camping trips, fishing trips, and vacations all over the Western US. She loved to travel in her son’s motorhome and just ride around in the golf cart with her children as they golfed.
At age 96 she was the oldest person at Ogden Regional to undergo bypass heart surgery. She rebounded with amazing strength and determination to see her 100 th birthday.
She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren - they too were the joy in her life. Family gatherings throughout the year, no matter the occasion, were always a delight for her and her homemade pies were always the best part of every dinner.
Helen is survived by her son, Leon Gudmundson; daughter, Judy Krull; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Burns; brothers, Edwin and Jack Burns; her beloved husband, Arthur; daughters, Karen Crase and Marie McKee; daughter-in-law, Georgeann Gudmundson, sons-in-law, Larry Krull, Scott Crase, and Dean McKee; and one grandson, David Gudmundson.
Mom/Grandma – May you have the freedom and peace you longed for, reunited with family that have gone before you and be blessed in Christ.
