Helen Killpack Peterson, 94, peacefully returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the RainTree Senior Living Center, in Syracuse, Utah. Helen was born on March 2, 1922, in Mohrland, Utah, a daughter of Grover Cleveland Killpack and Orilda Kirby. She was raised on the farm in Huntington, Utah in a large family of six sisters and four brothers. She graduated from North Emery High School in 1940.
She married the love of her life, David N. Peterson in September of 1943 in the middle of World War II, where David was called to serve. After the war they moved to Ogden and together they raised five children, living mostly in Washington Terrace. Helen worked for many years at Albertsons in South Ogden as a meat wrapper while raising her family. David passed away from cancer at age 69 and Helen tenderly cared for him during his illness.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the Relief Society where she specialized in compassionate service. She was very involved in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years. She also served for many years as a volunteer at both the elementary school and senior center in Washington Terrace. She had a loving and generous heart, and was always kept busy by serving others. She handcrafted and donated over 100 quilts to Primary Children’s Hospital and sewed nearly 200 dresses for the less fortunate children in Africa.
Helen is survived by her children, Pat (Jeff) England, Draper, Utah; Cheryl (Rick) Taylor, Slaterville, Utah; Scott (Lori) Peterson, Layton, Utah; Kelly (Hang) Peterson, Washington Terrace, Utah; and Kristin Evertsen, Clinton, Utah; and one sister, Beulah McArthur, of St. George, Utah.
