Helen Ruth Hein Parr

“Helen of Roy”

November 16, 1931 ~ October 19, 2015

On October 19, 2015 our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Helen Ruth Hein Parr returned home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 83.

She was born November 16, 1931 to Carl W. and Barbara B. “Betty” Strecker Hein in Vernal, Utah. She was the 2nd of eight children.

On September 3, 1950, Helen married Albert C. Parr. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple February 9, 1951. They traveled and lived around the world with their four children.

She was a resident of Roy for 54 years. In 1990, she was crowned as Roy’s “Unsung Citizen of the Year’. She proudly referred to herself, and was known by all, as “Helen of Roy”, a well-deserved title for a life dedicated to hard work and service.

Helen spent her life close to the soil, and was a master gardener. Although concealed in her corn and raspberry patch she could always be found, as all who knew her could attest, she was always singing a song. She was the heart of her family, celebrating cherished family traditions, finding joy and humor in all that she encountered. Her family and Neil Diamond were the loves of her life.

Helen was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many church callings at home and abroad. Of all her callings she cherished the seven years of service in the Ogden, Utah temple.

Many have been blessed by her countless acts of service, good meals, encouraging words, and through her prayers. Her thoughts were never far from her Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ and His gospel.

Helen is survived by her four children, Ronald C. Parr (Eileen), Lynnette E. Parr Thorsted (Stephen). David A. Parr, and Raymond B. Parr (Cindy); 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and four of her seven siblings, Roland Hein, of Vernal; Carl Hein, of Tooele; Virginia Loria and Elizabeth Zurrow, both of Los Angeles, CA.

She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, thrift, love, service, hope and faith.

“Mom we love you and will miss you every day until we meet again”.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
