Helen J. Walz
With deep gratitude, love and admiration we say goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother and friend Helen J. Walz. She passed away in Ogden, Utah on July 27, 2010.
Helen was born in South Dakota to Fred and Agnes Breed on June 27, 1913. She married Leo F. Walz on August 31, 1937. They lived in Lidgerwood, North Dakota, Selby and Aberdeen, South Dakota before moving to Gettysburg, South Dakota in 1950. Leo and Helen owned and operated the Red Owl store in Gettyburg until 1968. After Leo’s death in 1969, Helen worked at the Potter County Highway Department for the next twenty years. After her retirement, she moved to Clearfield, Utah to be closer to her family.
Helen loved everyone and always found the good in any person or situation. She lifted spirits with stories of her past, genuine interest in the lives of others, great concern and encouragement for all. Helen loved her jobs at the Red Owl and the Highway Department, and she would be the first to tell you how much she hated housework. Until macular degeneration took her sight at age 90, she was an avid reader. We will fondly remember the sparkle in her eyes and a smile that could brighten any room.
Helen is survived by daughter Carol Jost, Layton, Utah; grandchildren, Robert Jost, Utah; Kimberly and Karl Kersey, Utah; Jeffrey and Trisha Jost, South Dakota; great-grandchildren Lexie, Sean, Kyle, Breanna, Denver and Piper, and one sister Irene Swanson, Beaverton, Oregon.
Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and sisters, her husband Leo, daughter Jeanne and son Vance.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
The family wishes to thank Helen’s doctor, Stephen Bruce, the staff at Mt. Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center and Applegate Hospice for their loving care and consideration.
