With great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved father Helmut Walter Hopton. In loving memory of Bud, we are saddened to announce his passing on Monday, December 19, 2022. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered
Helmut is survived by three children, Tonya Yevette Hopton, Jamie Lynn and (Kevin) Perkins, and Lance Bud Hopton. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Zachary Bobby Liptrap, Patrick Ryan Guillen, Aubrey Lynn Guillen, Dezmond Marc Perkins, Danuel Joseph Perkins, and Ciera Skye Perkins as well as 13 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.
Bud was a Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the United States Navy as a CS3 aboard the Newport News Harbor Defense Unit in Fort Story, VA, from 1965 to 1969. The ships Motto was Magnia ominis Umbra "under the shadow of a great name" which fits him perfectly.
After serving he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Sandra Lopez. They had three children and later divorced amicably remaining good friends. He subsequently married two more times to Margie Villanueva and Peggy Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Martinez Hopton and sister, Herta Hopton.
Country music was his passion, and he was a big fan of Johnny Cash in his younger years. He loved to play baseball which he played with great passion, self-confidence, competitiveness, and great integrity. He was a loving, protective, and dedicated father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed but will always be honored and remembered by each one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family will be holding a private celebration of his life.
