Retta Royer

Henrietta “Retta” Royer, age 88, died January 27, 2015 of natural causes incident to age, at home and peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born to Herman and Lillie Rommerskirchen on December 6, 1926 in Pocahontas, Illinois. She married Elmer “Luke” Royer on June 11, 1944. Together they had 10 children. Joyce Lutz, Logan, UT; Gary (Jeannie) Royer, Irving TX; Kent (Sharon) Royer, West Valley, UT;  Joe (Joan) Royer, Hudson CO; Lynnette (Lynn) Hansen, Logan, UT; Lois Olivas, Logan, UT;  Mark Royer, (deceased); Danny (Lisa) Royer, Logan, UT; Gaye Mangum, Kanab, UT; and Timmy Royer, a special needs son who lived at home with his mother until her passing.  She has 28 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

Retta was preceded in death by her husband Luke and son Mark; 2 granddaughters, 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her brother Walter Rommerskirchen; Danville, IL and sister Lillian Wehrle; Salisbury, NC.

Mom received Jesus in her heart at age nine, and in her own words, “never had a desire to stray from the Lord.”  She read her Bible and prayed for her children daily. She and Luke were pastors of churches in Illinois, Utah and Arizona.  She played the piano and sang gospel songs and hymns with enthusiasm.

She loved the smell of lilacs. She enjoyed playing board games with her family and friends. There was always a big bowl of popcorn nearby.

Her final two years on earth were often difficult as physical weakness, illness and pain took a toll on her body.  But just hours before she passed away, her beloved son Timmy knelt beside her bed, took her hand, and said, “No pain in heaven Momma.  You’ll be happy. Go see Jesus.”

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, UT.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, UT.
