Henry Keffer
Henry Keffer was born May 28, 1930 in Gay, West Virginia to James Keffer and Wilda Knop Keffer. He died on April 6, 2016 incident to a fall. He was the 2nd oldest and had three brothers and three sisters. He graduated from grammar school and joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 16.
After basic training he was stationed in Great Falls, Montana where he met Sarah Manning. They were married September 23, 1950. His last assignment was to Hill Air Force Base where he retired in 1969. He was a man of many talents and an original Mr. “fixit”. He loved the outdoors and shared his passions with friends and family. Every year he cultivated a garden, giving away and canning the bounty of his labor. He enjoyed fishing, stopping at will to “Wet a line”. He continued to fish even though he could not eat what he caught. He enjoyed hunting for squirrels in West Virginia as well as deer and elk in Utah. After his wife retired they enjoyed many trips in their 5th wheel and cruising the world. He enjoyed watching the Jazz and the Rockies and was a fan of “wrestling” long before Hulk Hogan.
Henry had a dry wit and a generous heart. He believed “can’t died in the poor house” and encouraged all to get an education. He will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sarah, his daughter Sue (Mike) of West Point, and sons James (Beverly) of Seattle, John (Kim) of Park City and Jeff (Susan) of Portland. He is also survived by grandchildren Brian and Ben, Haley and Erika, Jason and Jordon and one great-granddaughter Helena. In addition his passing is mourned by one sister and two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Julie his hospice nurse for her compassionate support. We are grateful to the nurses and all the staff at the Whalen Veterans Home where Henry has lived for the past three years. You did more than care for him, you loved him; you laughed at his jokes and made him feel important. Thank you one and all.
