Henry Davis Zobell

Henry Davis Zobell, former longtime resident of Ogden, UT and Nyssa, OR, quietly passed away in his home in Bountiful, Utah, on July 3, 2010. He was 98 years old. He was born in Rigby, Idaho on March 23, 1912, where he grew up, attended school, and developed a set of moral and ethical values that guided his actions for the remainder of his life. From the rural community of Rigby, ID he went to Logan, UT to continue his education. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Agronomy in 1936. He excelled academically while also enjoying the social life provide by the school. After graduation his first and only employer was the Amalgamated Sugar Company where he was employed for the next 41 years. It was during his first assignment with the Sugar Company in Lewiston, UT that he met his lifelong companion and married Hortense Bernhisel in the Logan Temple on January 28, 1938. They spent the next 25 years residing in Nyssa, OR, working in agriculture, raising a family of three children and being actively engaged in the service of his Church and the community. There was never a call to serve that went unanswered or an assignment that was not carried out. While in Nyssa he competently performed his assigned sugar company duties and was successful as the District Manager of the Company''s Nyssa sugar factory. Henry was promoted to Vice President of Agriculture in 1964 and the family moved to Ogden, UT where they spent the remainder of his working career until he retired in 1977. In Ogden he continued his enthusiastic service in the Church, supporting his children with their career preparation and enjoying a growing number of grandchildren. He remained in Ogden after retirement and loved their house and neighbors on 31st Street. In 2000 they relocated to their new home Bountiful where he could be closer to family. During his life he took the opportunity to travel and spent many cherished vacations in such exotic places as the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, China, and Israel. Ocean side living in San Clemente, CA was a memorable part of his golden year''s experiences during the cold Utah winters. His final years were spent at the Heritage Place Assisted Living facility in Bountiful. He is survived by daughter Diane (Richard) Hurley of Bountiful, and sons W. Paige (Sherry) Zobell of McCall, ID, and Royce L. Zobell of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Bryan Hurley, Vicki Tumia, Sheryl Burk, Zacory Zobell and Angelyn Hyre; and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years who died in 2007; his parents, Ephraim and Stella Zobell, his brothers, Claude, and Delos, and by his sisters, Zelda, Louise, and Elgarda. As he often noted he was indeed the last leaf on the tree.

The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the considerate staff at Heritage Place who took loving care of Henry during his nearly ten years of residency. A special thanks is offered to Brett Morrill, MD for his kind and considerate professional care extended during the past few years. Services will be held 11 am, Friday, July 9 at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. (Orchard Dr.) where friends may visit from 9:45-10:45 am prior to services.
