Herbert William Ferdon passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at the age of 85, with his family at his bedside.
He was born to Lloyd and Laura Thomas Ferdon on October 26, 1925 in Lemington, Wisconsin.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various positions including a year mission with his loving wife, Almerta, at the Washington DC Temple.
Herbert served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years in the Pacific Theater which included WWII, Korea, and Vietnam retiring in 1970 as a Senior Chief Electronic Technician. After which they settled in Sunset, Utah where he worked at Hill Air Force Base. In his leisure time he and Almerta enjoyed traveling to Wisconsin to fish and visit with family and friends.
Survived by his wife, Almerta Felton Ferdon of 64 years and also his children, Michael (Angela) Ferdon, of Portsmouth, VA; Kathleen (Bob) Veliz, Sunset; and John Ferdo, of Sandy.
Also survived by his sister, Betty Duerkop of Eau Claire, WI; his brother, Bob Ferdon of St. Paul, MN.; his sister, Gloria (Sonny) Skare of St. Paul Park, MI.; his sister Cheryl (Dan) Selisky of St. Paul, MI,; sister Linda (Bob) Kasse of St. Paul, MI.; he has 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Louis Kafka, one brother, Roy Ferdon and his first born, Robert William Ferdon. He also was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Ellen Ferdon, wife of John.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24th at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S.
Family will meet friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
